{"id":10518,"date":"2019-03-01T01:47:22","date_gmt":"2019-03-01T05:47:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sstl.com\/newfoundland\/?page_id=10518"},"modified":"2019-05-30T21:52:38","modified_gmt":"2019-05-31T00:52:38","slug":"proficiency-in-free-fall-lifeboats-ffb","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.sstl.com\/newfoundland\/proficiency-in-free-fall-lifeboats-ffb\/","title":{"rendered":"Proficiency In Free Fall Lifeboats (FFB)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"g1-tabs-1\" class=\"g1-tabs g1-tabs--button g1-type--click g1-tabs--horizontal g1-tabs--top g1-align-left \">\n<div id=\"tab-title-counter-1\" class=\"g1-tab-title \">\n<p>Overview<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"tab-content-counter-1\" class=\"g1-tab-content \">\n<p><strong>AIM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This course meets the requirements of STCW Code Section B-I\/14.\u00a0 Participants who successfully complete this course will be able to undertake the tasks, duties, and responsibilities related to launching and recovering free fall lifeboats and taking charge of the survival craft during an emergency.<\/p>\n<p><strong>COURSE OUTLINE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To enable course participants to gain knowledge, and verify competency, in order to:<\/p>\n\n<ul id=\"g1-list-1\" class=\"g1-list--disc g1-list--none \">\n<li>Identify free fall lifeboats, including construction, general maintenance, and common features\/equipment<\/li>\n<li>Discuss familiarization and training of free fall lifeboat crews<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate proper launching procedures, including pre-launch inspections, personnel positioning and body posture<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate various free fall lifeboat coxswain competencies, including acting as a free fall lifeboat coxswain during launching and maneuvering<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate various free fall lifeboat coxswain competencies, including towing, person in water recovery approaches, and search patterns<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate operation of free fall lifeboat engines, including basic maintenance, start-up and shut-down procedures<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate various free fall lifeboat crew member competencies, including acting as a free fall lifeboat crew member during launching and maneuvering<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate skills and competencies associated with recovery of a free fall lifeboat<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"tab-title-counter-2\" class=\"g1-tab-title \">\n<p>Course Details<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"tab-content-counter-2\" class=\"g1-tab-content \">\n<p><strong>PREREQUISITES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul id=\"g1-list-2\" class=\"g1-list--disc g1-list--none \">\n<li>Must be at least 16 years of age<\/li>\n<li>A person must hold a training certificate in Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats Other than Fast Rescue Boats (PSC) or equivalent to take this course.<\/li>\n<li>Participants are expected to be in a good state of health and physically capable of fully taking part in all program activities. Participants are expected to participate in all physical training requirements.<\/li>\n<li>A Statement of Health Form completed on the first day of the course. A valid Medical Certificate, preferably the Mariners Medical, is required to be submitted prior to the start of course.\u00a0 See \u201c<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sstl.com\/newfoundland\/medical-requirements\/\">General Information: Medical Fitness<\/a><\/strong>\u201d for full details.<\/li>\n<li>A valid Government Identification is required and must be presented for registration and to the instructor on the first day of course commencement. (Driver\u2019s License, Passport, Vantage card).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>WITHOUT EXCEPTION,<\/strong> those trainees in non-compliance will be refused and billed the full program fee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CERTIFICATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All persons who successfully complete the course based on the performance standards will receive:<\/p>\n\n<ul id=\"g1-list-3\"
