AIM

This course will address C-NLOPB guidance, which specifies that “Lifeboat coxswains should participate in at least one lifeboat launch each year, at the installation, or, at a shore-based facility. In lieu of an annual lifeboat launch, a lifeboat simulator fitted with equipment the same as, or substantially similar to that which is fitted on the installation and which meets industry guidelines, may be used.” (*C-NLOPB Interpretation Note 11-01 “Supplementary Guidance”, June 8, 2016)

COURSE OUTLINE

This training will refresh the individual coxswain’s lifeboat launching competency and skills with respect to the competencies outlined in the Atlantic Canada Standard Practice for the Training and Qualifications of Offshore Personnel:

  • Survival Craft Design and Components
  • Survival Craft Launching and Recovery
  • Survival Craft Operations
  • Survival Craft Operations in Ice

DURATION

5 hours per person; up to 8 hours based on a maximum of 6 persons

COURSE DETAILS

PREREQUISITES

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Must have a valid:
    • Training certificate in MED with respect to Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats (MED PSC) or equivalent under subsection 2.2 of Chapter 2 of TP 4957E; or
    • Training certificate in Survival Craft Coxswain / Offshore Survival Craft Leader from a recognized provider
  • A Statement of Health Form completed on the first day of the course. A valid Medical Certificate, preferably the Mariners Medical, is required to be submitted prior to the start of course.  See “General Information: Medical Fitness” for full details.
  • A valid Government Identification is required and must be presented for registration and to the instructor on the first day of course commencement. (Driver’s License, Passport, Vantage card).

WITHOUT EXCEPTION, those participants in non-compliance will be refused and billed the full program fee.

CERTIFICATION

All persons who successfully complete the course based on the performance standards will receive, from SSTL, the following:

  • A Survival Systems Training Limited and Virtual Marine Certificate of Completion in Annual Lifeboat Launch Competency Coxswain Training, valid for 1 year from date of completion
